The Kai restaurant was simply an amazing culinary experience that we will remember for a lifetime. If you are ever in Phoenix and looking for a unique combination of ambiance, taste and breathtaking view, you simply MUST experience the KAI.
It was almost a 5 star experience from beginning to end. While entering or leaving the restaurant, there was someone there to open the door for us. When being seated there was always someone there to pull out our chair and place a fresh clean white napkin on our laps. When I say every time, I mean EVERY TIME. When we got up to go the washroom, we were again seated with a clean white napkin placed on our laps. When we got up to go out on the deck to take a picture of the beautiful sunset, we were once again seated with a clean napkin paced on our lap. We almost felt guilty as between the two of us we must have gone through a half dozen clean napkins. Within seconds of taking the picture of the sunset, our attendant was right there asking if we wanted our picture taken with the sunset in the background.
The atmosphere was very calm and soothing with quiet native American music being played in the background. The lights were dim and in fact so dim that you could not read the menu without the aid of a flashlight which was provided along with the menu. Did I mention that the two of us had two attendants? Each time our food was delivered or our empty plates were removed, there were two of them there making sure that it happened at the same time for both of us. We referred to it as synchronized service. In addition to the two attendants taking care of our every need, there was the separate attendant keeping our wine glasses topped up.
Each menu had a unique hand painted native art picture on the cover painted by a local artist. Our attendant told us the story behind each picture.
Before our meals arrived we were delivered complementary hors dourves of native American breads, rabbit elk and other delicacies. Each dish was announced with a description of the contents of each.
The main course was delicious and like every other food placed before us, the ingredients were described in detail. The majority of main dishes were of course, native American dishes. We had the duck and buffalo. There was also elk, lamb and other wonderful choices.
I am sure that by now you will have gotten the hint that this is NOT going to be a cheap night out. Be prepared for at least $100 a person.
The one negative was that the duck was a little on the rare side for our liking. We LOVE our beef and in this case buffalo medium rare but we prefer our bird medium well.
We rate the Kai restaurant as a 4 1/2 star. If you look at any of our other ratings you will see that we do not easily dish out such a high rating. Had the duck been less rare, we would have given the Kai a 5 star!
If you are ever in the Phoenix area you simply MUST try the Kai.
